Making Safeguarding Personal
At the heart of empowerment is the Making Safeguarding Personal (MSP) approach, this is a strengths-based person-centred approach, which aims to promote responses to safeguarding situations in a way that enhances involvement, choice and control as well as improving quality of life, wellbeing and safety. It is about seeing people as experts in their own lives and working alongside them to identify the outcomes they want, with the aim of enabling them to resolve their circumstances and support their recovery. Making Safeguarding Personal is also about collecting information about the extent to which this shift has a positive impact on people’s lives.
Every effort should be made to ensure that adults at risk are afforded appropriate protection under the law and have full access to the judicial system in respect of human rights issues, or when a crime has been committed.
